Why is Hermes returning my parcel to sender?
The following are common reasons for items returned to sender: The address does not exist or is incorrect. The item contains insufficient postage. The addressee has moved without providing a forwarding address.
If you require the parcel to be returned to the sender then you would need to request this before the parcel is delivered. We would need to be talking to the contract holder (whoever paid and ordered the service) to be able to handle such a request.
Possible reasons for return include, but are not limited to: Shipment being refused by the intended receiver. Physical address not able to be found by UPS. Unable to deliver after multiple delivery attempts.
Please allow 14 days from the time you handed over your item for return. It can sometimes take a while for the retailer or seller to confirm they've received your parcel.
Occasionally packages are returned to us as undeliverable. When the carrier returns an undeliverable package to us, you will be issued a refund for the item(s) minus any return fees, and a coupon for the shipping charges.
Unfortunately, there's no way to track a Return to Sender package once USPS begins delivering it back to you.
You can track your returned parcel by following the tracking link that you'll see in the email confirming your return. But if you didn't receive or can't find this email, no problem – just use your ParcelShop receipt number or your 16-digit tracking number here.
With return to sender, a mail carrier will pick up the mail item, whether it's delivered to the wrong address or person or rejected, and send it back to the sender. Follow the below step-by-step guide to know what process to use.
The placement of the return service endorsem*nt on mailpieces constitutes, in part, a pledge by the sender that they will pay return postage if the pieces are refused by the addressee. This pledge is only valid until delivery is made and becomes void when a piece is accepted and opened by the addressee.

How long does a Hermes investigation take?
For an item that has become lost during transit

Hermes will make 2 attempts to re-deliver your parcel, remember you can request a neighbour sign for the parcel, or authorise the driver to leave the parcel in a safe place via your My Hermes tracking link. XDP will leave a calling card and notify you via email or SMS for most missed delivery attempts.
Our drivers always try their best to get to every collection, so if it fails, it is due to an unavoidable problem. If a EVRi collection fails, they offer three collection attempts as standard; if your collection fails you do not need to rebook. They will automatically re-attempt the next day.
The shipping status “In Transit” indicates that the courier company has picked up the package and your shipment is now on its way to arriving at the shipping address. This does not mean the shipment is en route to its final destination in a plane or delivery truck.

What can I do if the person I'm sending the parcel to doesn't want it any more? If the person receiving the parcel no longer wants it, the best thing is to ask them to refuse the parcel upon delivery. The courier will then return the parcel and we'll arrange for it to be sent back to you.
If you have a parcel that's due to be delivered and you'd like to divert to a neighbour or safe place, first go to our parcel tracking page. Enter your parcel's 16-digit tracking number and delivery postcode.
