10. Bourjois
This French cosmetic and makeup company is owned by Coy Inc (NYSE:COTY), one of the US’ biggest multinational cosmetic and beauty companies, which owns around 70 brands, some of them cruelty free, some of them not. As one of those still testing on animals, Bourjois performs these tests for products sold in China, as Chinese law requires such procedure.
If you buy Yves Rocher products in Europe or USA, you shouldn’t worry about ethical problems. However, products exported to China are tested on animals, since Chinese law requires such procedure.
Shiseido is one of the oldest and biggest Japanese cosmetic multinational company. The company mainly does not employ testing on animals except for products sold in China. But, it is important to notice that 2 Shiseido’s brands, Buxom and BareMinerals are cruelty-free.
When the law regulations do not require so, Revlon (NYSE:REV) does not test on animals. However, since they sell their products in China (and some other countries that require so), the company is still on PETA’s list of companies that test on animals.
Clinique is a subsidiary of The Estee Lauder Companies Inc (NYSE:EL), one of the leading makeup, skincare, hair care and fragrance products, owning around 25 brands. As its parent company, Clinique does test on animals, when such procedure is required by law.
This classy brand, as many others of its kind, still tests on animals. Even though animal testing is not mandatory in the company’s policy, it is done when it is required by law (and it is usually for Chinese market only).

With 26.9 billion sales in 2018, L’Oreal (OTCMKTS:LRLCY) is among the biggest cosmetic companies at the moment, hence at the top of the biggest companies that test on animals. Even though the company has minimized testing on animals as much as possible, L’Oreal is still on PETA’s (black) list. That’s because L’Oreal’s products sold in China have to go under animal testing, according to Chinese health authorities, as we have already learned. Apparently, market still wins in the race with ethics.
