The 2024 CSLP Summer Reading Theme is Adventure Begins at Your Library.
Participating libraries may use the materials and the Collaborative Summer Library Program (CLSP) theme or create their own Summer Reading Program.
The Arkansas State Library (ASL) will provide online access to the CSLP 2024 Manual, Artwork, and Slogans. CSLP also provides PSAs that libraries in the state of Arkansas can use to promote their program on local media. ASL does not provide paper materials and promotional items. Libraries may purchase any themed materials directly from CSLP’s online store.
The CSLP manual includes an early literacy program, a children’s program, a teen program, and an adult program. Manuals include programming resources, book lists, activities. and more.
Craft Workshops
Public library staff responsible for summer reading programming are invited to 2024 Summer Reading Prep Workshops throughout January 2024. Workshops will focus on the 2024 SRP there, “Adventure Begins at Your Library” and will provide ideas for setting the scene for the theme with decorations and theme craft ideas.

This is a drop-in program where children and teens win prizes forreading and other independent library activities. Children up to6th grade receive stickers for each activity to win prizes.
The Challenge encourages children aged 4 to 11 to enjoy the benefits of reading for pleasure over the summer holidays. It can be joined in person or online and is for both devoted book lovers and those who are new to reading – everyone is welcome!
The theme for National Library Week 2024 is Ready, Set, Library! National Ambassador for Young People's Literature and Newbery and Pura Belpré-award winning author Meg Medina is the 2024 Honorary Chair.
As much as students wish to deny it, summer reading is an acceptable strategy to remain academically engaged so they can better prepare for the coming school year. That is, if they don't begin their reading the last week of summer.
Thirty-two percent of kids ages 15-17 said they read no books over the summer, compared to 22 percent in 2016. The number of 9-to-11-year-olds who do not read doubled, increasing from 7 percent to 14 percent.

The 2024 Summer theme is "Read, Renew, Repeat" and features artwork from Jason Chin, Zoe Persico, Holly Bradley, and James Stanley. Designed for all ages, our summer reading program will feature the idea of conservation.
The main themes in "All Summer in a Day" are violence and bullying, dystopia and social conflict, and alienation from nature. Violence and bullying: Through the schoolchildren, Bradbury explores the human tendency to scapegoat and victimize those who are perceived as "other."
