Domestic Help in Buenos Aires

Almost everyone has their houses or apartments cleaned by hired help. It is common for a maid (mucama) to come once or even twice a week, change sheets and towels, do the dishes, and any other general house cleaning chores. Live-in help exists, however it is extremely rare. There are many people who do this work and finding a reliable one can be quite an exhaustive process. However, a dependable housekeeper is a priceless asset, and a good personal connection can lead to an endearing relationship. Expect to pay around $18 an hour, or between $40-50 for a mucama to come once a week. Add another $5 per visit to cover transportation costs, as many cleaners travel great distances to get to work. For longer shifts (more than 3 hours) it’s also expected that you’ll offer lunch or refreshments.

There are companies (Agencia-Rios,Mucamas Hoy, C&C Maid Selection) that organize groups of maids and housekeepers. These companies will verify your background, their employees, and the safety of your residence and belongings. However, the best way to find a reliable and trustworthy mucama is to ask for personal references. Remember, these people have access to your home and your personal valuable things. Don’t take any chances by trying someone new.
