I have bought a beautiful dress from Maje for a wedding.
uk.maje.com/en/ready-to-wear/collection/dresses/120roman/MFPRO01274.html?dwvar_MFPRO01274_color=P003
I’ve tried it on with the usual strappy sandals and because of the pattern and the swingy skirt and the sleeves the sandals just don’t look quite right.
I was wondering if I could ever team this dress with boots for a wedding. The wedding won’t be super formal I would say just normal levels of formality. I also don’t know what the weather will be like and I think a lot of it will take place outside.
I’m thinking of teaming it with these
I’ve bought these items and I think they look great together but am I just fooling myself that this is wedding attire?

I think there are a million styles and colours of footwear that would go with that dress for a wedding. Black ankle boots aren't one of them IMHO.

Love the look, but not for a wedding, sorry OP!

Please don’t. They’re both lovely individually. Awful together.

I think the dress is absolutely gorgeous, but I don’t think the boots are a good addition. What about some smart white ankle boots so the outfit looks nice and summery and it’s more dressed up for a wedding?

I quite like the idea of a flat shoe but think the black boot is too heavy for that dress. What about “ caged” shoes? These 2 give you different shapes although obviously heels are available too. I wasn’t particularly suggesting the black colour but I like the shape.

@StellaLeonte I also thought of a white boot but I haven’t seen any I really like enough.
@Divebar2021 I really like those black ones actually! I am going to look at more like that
One of my thoughts was I can wear both items again so not just a pair of occasionwear sandals that join my others that are barely worn (and v uncomfortable) but I needed to hear that the dress and the boots just aren’t a great match. I knew it in my heart of hearts but didn’t want to admit it.

I’ve worn heeled knee high boots to a wedding. Wouldn’t wear flat black bikery boots to a wedding though, too informal.
You could possibly wear some heeled tan ankle boots with that dress? If it’s not too formal a wedding? Would look best with matching accessories eg tan clutch bag

I think a heavier sandal or block heeled mule would suit.
You can absolutely wear the boots if you want, personally I wouldn’t but if it suits your style and vibe and the bride isn’t a precious one who expects everyone at black tie and co*cktail level then it’s fine!
I would absolutely wear a block heeled cream or white sandal or mule with that dress. It’s very nice!

Lovely dress. No, no, no to the boots.

I think they will look great together for a night out at the pub or a restaurant with your mates, but not for a wedding. No.

And with a green midi Mayfair bag from Aspinal. Or maybe a Lottie.

Like the boots, like the dress but not together for a wedding. They could be a lovely summer night out outfit, though.

The dress is really lovely, don't think the boots are particularly wedding attire, something like these maybe?

Boots are OK for a winter wedding at which you might have to walk through a muddy churchyard but in summer? No. And with that dress? No. You would look like a sulky 15 year old whose mother forced her into something smart but who thinks that she is sticking it to the man by wearing boots to spite the grown ups.

Yes you can wear boots to a wedding. Maybe not those ones. Green or lilac ones?

A teenager could probably pull it off but it won't look right on an adult.

Have you just shown us a metallic lilac cowboy shoe boot? I fear that I have slipped into a fever dream.

I mean, you can wear what you want, but it really isn't appropriate or normal wedding attire, no. As you say it is a relatively typically smart wedding, not an informal, jeans in a barn type wedding.

I've worn smart-ish black ankle boots to a wedding before, but it was a winter wedding so I didn't think anything of it!
