It’s an end of October wedding. My brother is getting married. Can I get away with black tights? My dress is burgandy, my shoes are black and bag is black.

Is the dress short or long sleeved?
Rhythmisadancer · 30/09/2022 09:54
do you mean barely black? Or opaques?
andtheweedonkey · 30/09/2022 09:55
Yes. Why wouldn't you?

Yes! I wore black fishnets with a blue satin floaty type dress for my brothers wedding this week. Looked great!

I think it’ll be absolutely fine. Honestly I’ve never seen the big fuss about what colours guests wear!
Backtoreality1 · 30/09/2022 10:23
So long as you aren't the bride it will be fine :)

Difficult to say as sometimes they can look a bit flat and "worky" I feel.
Are clear tights an option? I think they will showcase the dress better. Dress is gorgeous OP, good choice
AppleKatie · 30/09/2022 10:24
Yes it’s fine, dress is gorgeous too. Perfect.
DappledThings · 30/09/2022 10:27
Of course you can. How is this even a concern?
ShirleyPhallus · 30/09/2022 10:28
That dress is lovely, where is it from?
TheSausageKingofChicago · 30/09/2022 10:28
If course! You could get a funky pattern if you wanted to be fancier, like diamonds or zebra pattern or something (still in black)

Etiqette-wise I wouldn't worry. Aesthetic-wise I think sheer tights would look better with that lovely dress.
KimberleyClark · 30/09/2022 10:31
Yes it’s absolutely fine. Personally I wouldn’t go bare legged to a wedding or other formal event anyway unless I was wearing a maxi but I’m old fashioned.
stealthninjamum · 30/09/2022 10:31
It’s a lovely dress. I think winter weddings are slightly different you don’t have to wear lighter colours. Having said that the way it’s styled in the picture looks good with light colour tights?
Where’s the dress from? I wonder if there’s an occasion where I can wear something like that.
RoseyPalm · 30/09/2022 10:41
If you are not trying to hide scars of similar. Sheer would be much better, or perhaps a rust shade?
Will shoes and bag match?

I think winter weddings are slightly different you don’t have to wear lighter colours.
They aren't different because there is no requirement to wear lighter colours just because a wedding is in June.
The knots people tie themselves up in with these made-up rules about wedding attire are bonkers.

I love that dress, I've been looking for a burgundy dress with decent sleeves for ages. I'm another one wanting to know where it's from please.
Also I think it would look good with black tights too, I'd wear it with opaques and dark brown ankle boots...if you tell us where it's from
ChangedNameAgain99 · 30/09/2022 10:58
Love the dress OP where from?
TheBoots · 30/09/2022 11:00
Is wearing opaque tights breaking some wedding etiquette rule? No. If they make you comfortable, go for it.
Will they suit the dress? Also no. I'd say they make an outfit look less "dressy" and you'd be better off going natural sheer tights.
mondaytosunday · 30/09/2022 11:04
Why not? If it goes with the dress then I'd wear black tights any time.
Greendalerocket · 30/09/2022 12:08
Sorry everyone, the dress is from Shein.
I think I’ll go for black opaque tights then.
