Candidate for Crime is the third episode of the third season of Columbo and the twentieth episode overall. It first aired on November 4, 1973 and directed by Boris Sagal in his second of two contributions to the series. In addition to Peter Falk as Lieutenant Columbo, the episode stars Jackie Cooper, Joanna Linville and Tisha Sterling.
In Candidate for Crime, Columbo becomes embroiled in political corruption when a candidate for the United States Senate stages the murder of his campaign manager as a case of mistaken identity.

- Katey Sagal, daughter of director Boris, has a cameo as Hayward's secretary.
