Charlie Carlton Charming otherwise known as Froggy, is one of the many princes of the Charming Kingdom, the current King of the Center Kingdom, and one of the most influential royals in the Land of Stories. He was cursed into the form of a humanoid frog by his former lover, Morina, angered by his breakup, thinking that it was due to her appearance. The curse was later attempted to be lifted by the Fairy Godmother after he had helped her twin grandchildren, though after continuously changing from a human to a frog , he decided to remain a frog although after the witch who cursed him died, his curse was broken permanently. He is the husband of Red Riding Hood, and the adoptive father of the Lost Boys.

Biography[]

Childhood[]

Charlie is the son of King Chester Charming of the Charming Kingdom, being the youngest of four princes, Chandler, Chase and Chance, unlike his brothers, Charlie, being the youngest, was quite carefree and very flirtatious with the girls of the kingdom. Which gave him disliked his father Chester.

Imposed Curse and Self-Exile[]

At some point in his life Charlie met Morina, whom he began to court and she fell in love with him, but when he found out that Morina was a witch, for fear that his family would find out he broke up with her.

Morina, devastated, believing that he had left her because she was ugly, full of anger, cast a powerful curse on him, transforming Charlie into a being half human and half frog. Charlie, ashamed of his monstrous appearance, fled the Charming Kingdom and took refuge in the Dwarf Forests, to no one would find it.

The Wishing Spell[]

Upon arriving in the land of stories, the twins find Charlie being the first inhabitant they meet. At first they thought he was going to eat them but then they realized that Charlie was not going to hurt them. He invited them to spend the night at his house, there he tells them about the world they were in, about the kingdoms and their monarchs, in addition to telling them about the wishing spell and giving them the notebook of the traveler who found it.

When Alex and Conner managed to recover the Little Mermaid's dagger, Charlie managed to locate them thanks to some mermaids telling him about their current location. Charlie tells the twins to come with them since the Fairy Godmother wants to see them. The twins are reluctant to go with him since they don't know what the fairy will do to them. Charlie, trying to hide his sadness, begs them to come with them since the fairy promised to remove the curse that tormented him if he took them. The twins finally agreed to go with him when they saw how much Charlie wanted to return to his human form.

Before they could go, they saw Goldilocks arrive with Red Riding Hood tied to Porridge's back, then they watched the scene of the two fighting before Goldilocks threw Red Riding Hood into the thorn pit and she was kidnapped again by The Huntress. After the fact, Malumclaw and his pack of wolves arrived at the place and cornered the group. They said they would take the twins and Goldilocks but they chose to eat Charlie. Before they could bite him Charlie jumped high enough to escape the circle of wolves and run away to ask for help.

Later he is seen through the magic mirror marching along with Jack and an army of soldiers from the Northern Kingdom who march towards the fortress where the Evil Queen is. Charlie rescues Red after she almost fell from the tower and in gratitude she gives him many kisses making him turn a darker green which symbolizes her blushing. When Red Riding Hood helps Goldilocks escape with Jack, she starts crying uncontrollably. Charlie comforts her by telling her that she did the right thing and she asks him if that pain will ever go away. He answers yes, but that it will take a long time for him to do so and hugs her before returning to the palace together.

Later, due to his great courage, he is invited to the baptism of Cinderella's daughter, although he was somewhat uncomfortable about it. Later, the Fairy Godmother removes the curse and reveals his true identity to his three brothers who run to hug him between tears of happiness.

Collecting the Items for the Wand of Wonderment[]

Froggy was turned back to his frog shape to keep an eye on the outlawed animals in the Dwarf Forests. He helped Alex and Conner on their entire journey to assemble the Wand of Wonderment. He came up with the plan to build an airship, climbed the Beanstalk with them and supported them with advice. He was turned back into a human.[2]

Defeating the Grand Armée[]

Froggy was helping Red run her kingdom with the House of Progress. When the Fairy Godmother's magic started failing, Froggy turned back into a frog. He joined Red and the other royals on the hidden path and was captured by the Grande Armée when they were betrayed. After the battle, in which Froggy fought alongside the other Charming brothers, Bo Peep fled and Froggy and Red tried to find her. When Froggy was elected the new king of Red's former kingdom, Red spontaneously proposed to him, exclaiming she would be queen again if they married. He seemed a little baffled by it. ("His life had just taken a very unexpected and frightening turn."[3])

Almost Marrying Red and Getting Trapped in a Magic Mirror[]

On the day of Charlie and Red's wedding, right before they were married, the witch Morina interrupted the ceremony and demanded that Charlie come away with her. Afraid that Morina would hurt Red if he didn't do what she wanted, Charlie left Red at the altar. When Red later found him in Morina's house, he was imprisoned in a magic mirror. Without the Wishing Spell, they saw no way to free him.[4]

Escaping the Magic Mirror and Defeating the Witches and the Literary Army[]

Froggy explored the Magic Mirror and met a young girl who was, unbeknownst to Froggy, the former Evil Queen. Froggy freed himself by speaking with Medusa and "freeing her from her own mirror". Using her tears, he freed many people who were turned to stone and goes to the otherworld to fight with the twins, and finally married Red and adopted the lost boys.

Physical Appearance[]

Standing behind Alex and Conner was what could be best described as a frog man. He was tall, with a wide face, big, glossy eyes, and shiny green skin. He wore a dapper three-piece suit and carried a large glass jar of lily pads.

Frog Man[]

As a frog, Charlie was a humanine half human and half frog, he was in fact an anthropomorphic frog with slimy green skin, large bulging eyes and wide mouth, fins on the palms and legs.

Human Form[]

As a human, Charlie is a rather attractive man with light skin, short dark hair and very green eyes, he looks a lot like his other brothers but he was actually the youngest of all.

Personality[]

Prince Charlie was cursed and changed into a frog by a very aggressive witch named Morina[6] whom he fell in love with, but rejected her once he found out that she was a witch. He told Alex and Conner a little bit of his story and expressed his sadness about his frog appearance; he told them he knew about the existence of the Wishing Spell but felt too embarrassed to go out into the world looking like a frog to use the spell.[7] He was later turned back into a prince by the Fairy Godmother.[8]

His favorite drink was lily pad tea with a few flies. He also really hated spiders.[9]

After being turned human again- then frog again - then human again, and then frog again, he chose to remain a frog, saying that the transition became more difficult every time, implying it took a toll on his body, and there was a reason he kept becoming a frog over and over again.

"No matter how many times I become a man I always change back into a frog. I think the universe is trying to tell me something."[10]

Relationships[]

Prince Charlie Charming was the fourth son of King Chester Charming[11]. When he went missing, his brothers (Chance, Chase & Chandler) went looking for him and during the search they met their brides (Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty & Snow White).[12]

He was in a relationship with Queen Queen Red Riding Hood and lived with her in her castle. Red finally chose Froggy over Jack, and they kissed.

"While the others were constantly annoyed by Red's vain statements and lack of empathy, it just made Froggy love her more. He had lived in hiding for years because he was afraid of how the world would treat a prince-turned-frog, but Red was the kind of person who would never lose confidence no matter what anyone or anything said to her. It was the trait he admired most about her."[13]

When Red was evicted from her castle, he and Red temporarily moved to the Fairy Palace. After the battle, Charlie offered to take Red to live in the Charming Kingdom with him, but when he was elected king of the former Red Riding Hood Kingdom, it was implied that he and Red may marry and stay in the Red Riding Hood Kingdom together (later the kingdom name changed to the Center Kingdom).

Charlie had accepted Red's proposal and they were planning a wedding. Conner was Froggy's best man. The ceremony was interrupted by Morina, Charlie's "first love". It turns out they were once betrothed, but Charlie broke their engagement because he was afraid to tell his family he was courting a witch. Morina thought it was because of her appearance, and put the curse on him, turning him into a frog.

Froggy had six sons, the Lost boys of Neverland who Red Riding Hood and Froggy adopted.[14]
