Cupid (Riordan Books) (1)

Cupid, also known asAmorin Latin, is the Roman god of erotic love, affection, and desire. He is the lieutenant of his mother, Venus, and the frequent playment of Hymenaios and Ganymede. His Greek counterpart isEros.

Powers[]

As a son of Venus and Mars, Cupid is very powerful. Despite the fact that he is a minor god, his omnipotent romantic allure makes most of the gods, even Demeter, Hera, and even Zeus, fear him. The only known deities who have at least partial immunity to him are the virgin goddesses.

God Physiology:It is presumed that he has the standard powers of a god.

  • Immortality:As with all gods, Cupid is immortal and cannot be killed through conventional methods.
  • Shapeshifting:Like all gods, Cupid is able to shapeshift into any form that he desires. As the God of Desire, Cupid can change his physical appearance at will depending on the perception of beauty of the person he is in the presence of.
  • Divine Form (presumably):It is presumed that Cupid is able to enter a divine form that is so powerful and radiant that any mortal who looks upon it will instantly be incinerated.
  • Superhuman Strength and Stamina (presumably):Presumably, Cupid is stronger and has greater stamina than average humans.
  • Levitation (presumably):It is presumed that Cupid can levitate, although his ability to fly makes this ability one that he likely would not need to use often.
  • Teleportation (presumably):It is presumed that Cupid can teleport to any location, as well as take other people and objects with him while teleporting.
  • Telepathy (presumably):It is presumed that Cupid is able to read or hear the thoughts of others.
  • Bilocation (presumably):It is presumed that Cupid is able to exist in multiple places at once, so long as his domain is being invoked.
  • Power Bestowal (presumably):It is presumed that Cupid, like other gods, can impart his powers onto others to create new gods. However, he would only be able to create minor gods; with each new god created, the older god would lose a small and equal amount of power.

Amokinesis:As the God of Erotic Love, Affection, and Desire, Cupid has absolute control and divine authority over love, lust, and desire, but not quite as much as his mother. He cannot create love from nothing, and his form of love seems to be harsher and more enforced than his mother's, which might be due to Cupid being a son of Mars.

  • Romantic Omniscience:Cupid always knows who a person is truly in love with.

Invisibility:Cupid can render himself invisible in order to assault others unexpectedly. He cannot, however, will himself to become invisible while sleeping. This ability was first used when he lived in a villa with Psyche. Additionally, he became invisible when Nico and Jason faced him.

Disembodied Spirit:Cupid can send his spirit to other locations. He sent his spirit out after Psyche and briefly communicated with her as a disembodied voice since his physical body was far too weak for him to travel.

Flight:Cupid is able to fly by way of the feathered white wings on his back.

Abilities[]

Archery:While not as skilled as Apollo and Artemis, Cupid is quite an impressive archer due to his long experience at striking others' hearts with his arrows.

Bilingualism:As a God of Love, Cupid is fluent in French due to it being the "language of love".

Equipment[]

Magical Arrows:Cupid's arrows possess magical powers. If his arrows miss a target, they will glow white-hot and explode in flame. When his arrows hit a target, they dissolve, leaving no blood or visible wounds behind, although Nico's face did depict pain upon impact.

  • Arrows of Romance:Cupid's powers over love are usually exercised and enforced through his romantic golden bow and arrows. Anyone struck with his arrow will instantly be filled with uncontrollable desire and love for another individual who Cupid chooses. He once forced Apollo to fall in love with the nymph Daphne.
  • Arrows of Coerced Romantic Confession:Cupid can force anyone to confess their true romantic feelings by shooting them with his arrows. The only known instance of these being used is with Nico di Angelo, with the latter being forced to tearfully admit his secret love for Percy Jackson.
