What is the difference between Body Mass Index, Body Weight, and Good Health?
The definition of Body Mass Index is a measurement of the human body’s shape based on individual weight and height. So to simplify this definition, BMI is a measure of body size. The Body Mass Index is used as a quick reference to judge if an individual is overweight or underweight. However BMI does not take into account the breakdown of an individual’s body fat weight and lean mass weight.
The definition of Body Weight is a measurement of force due to gravity. If we simplify this definition, Body Weight is how much force of gravity that is needed to keep you on earth.
Nowhere in the definition of Body Mass Index and Body Weight does the term health appear.
The definition of health is presence or absence of illnesses, injuries, or impairments. Good health can be judged by improvements of illness such as blood pressure, cholesterol, energy level, amount of sleep. Improvements to an individual’s body composition can protect against injuries and impairments. Body composition is a measurement of an individual’s body fat weight and lean body weight. An improvement to an individual’s body composition means maintaining muscles and loss of excess body fat.
As we notice Health is not judged by a number on a scale or a number on a chart. A person’s Health can improve without seeing a major change in numbers on a scale or numbers on a chart. Ways to judge improvements in a person’s health is how one feels physically, mentally, and emotionally.
Between Body Mass Index, Body Weight, and Health which one is most important for a person to improve to see a positive change in their daily life?
