Hi all! Welcome to this blog, I am going to discuss the examples of good designs and bad designs. Before getting into the examples, let’s establish what good design and bad design is.
A good design is easy to use, easy to understand, accessible and a kind of design that caters to users’ needs whereas, a bad design is a complicated one, complex to understand, has lack of accessibility.
Now the good design and bad design has been established, let’s move onto the examples.
Examples of Good Design
- Apple AirPods
Apple AirPods are easy to use, easy to wear. It comes with certain set of features like noise cancellation, it can be found if lost via Find My app. Apple also put a full stop on buying wired earphones which you would keep buying again and again when the wire tears off or breaks and hence, AirPods became one time solution in long run.
2. Starbucks Coffee
We are living in diverse world where everyone's needs are different from each other and just like that, one kind of coffee cannot be someone else’s cup of coffee. The brand is known for its customization, they provide personalized coffee to their customer. The brand is very well aware how to make a product that caters to all the coffee lovers out there.
3. Google Maps
Google Maps have become part of our daily lives. From finding our direction on national to international roads, this is one app that people trust and use and it is not just limited to that. It is one of the greatest navigation app as it is easily accessible as well.
4. Google Search
Again, very easy to use and understand, it easily responds to users’ need and what they are looking for.
5. Netflix
Gives personalized experience to everyone on basis of the shows/ movies user has watched previously which means everyone finds different shows on the Netflix home page.
Now that good examples haves been discussed, let’s jump to the bad ones.
Examples of Bad Design
- Amazon
It is a great platform that provides basically everything a user would want to find but the experience to find the item is not that smooth. Too much information which is presented in a very cluttered mannr makes the user experience miserable.
2. Unclear elevator buttons
Unclear elevator buttons which basically leads to confusion which button to press to go up and downwards.
3. Heavy Laptops
Heavy laptops that are difficult to carry for long time. In today’s time, when it is so easier to get lighter weight laptops, it could be disadvantages for the brand to come with such products.
4. Classroom Seats
This is a bad UX example because this is not an inclusive design. It doesn’t serve to users who are left handed and only focuses on the assumption that all users are right handed.
5. Glass ketchup bottle
How many times has it happened that you ended up with more amount of ketchup than required? Always, no? Which is why, this bottle ends up giving bad user experience along with extra ketchup
So, we have so many real life examples around us to learn from and understand how user experience can get better and smooth.
