How do I know what size bra to order? ›

Measure loosely around the fullest part of your bust. Subtract the band size from this measurement. Use this number to determine your cup size according to the table below. Example: if your ribcage measurement is 31, and your bust measurement is 37, your bra size is a 34C: 31+3=34, so 34 is your band size.

DDD is most commonly used in the US, and converts to an E or F cup in UK sizes – one size up from DD. Many larger cup bra brands use UK sizing, so it's worth being familiar with how sizes convert.

Is a DDD the same as an F? It might seem confusing, but yes a DDD is the same as an F— sometimes they are labeled differently based on the brand. After size D you can either go up to size DD which is the bra size equivalent to size E, size DDD which is equivalent to size F, and size DDDD which is equivalent to size G.

A breast measurement 5 inches larger than the band size is a DD and a breast measurement 6 inches larger than the band size is a DDD. Some European brands do have E and F cups.

Band size is the measurement around your rib cage, just under your breasts. To find your band size without a measuring tape, you can wrap a piece of string or ribbon around your body and mark the point where it meets in front. Once you have your measurement, you'll need to convert it into inches.

Find your Cup Size

Wrap the measuring tape around your back at band level and measure across the fullest part of your chest. If the tape falls on a half-inch, round it up as you did for band size. Every inch equals one cup size. For example: 1 inch is an A cup, 2 inches is a B cup, etc.

In order to determine if your cup size is too big or small, look to see if you have an extra bump of breast tissue at the top or at the sides of the cups or if you have a wrinkle in the cups or extra space in the cup.

The difference is truly in the name… DD or DDD are the US standard; E and F are used more internationally. As our range continues with a G cup, for example, we'll call it just that, a “G.”

A: A double letter signifies a cup and a half, like the difference between 13 (f), 13.5 (ff), and 14 (g). A G cup is bigger.

What's the difference between DDD and G cup? What about DDD and G cup sizes? In American bra size, A DDD cup is also called an F cup, which sits just one size above a G cup. It means that they differ by just one inch.

What bra size is after 36DDD? ›

The 36DD and the 38D are the same cup size, the only difference is the 38 band is bigger around then the 36 band.

Women have been lumped into using the same four letters of the alphabet to determine their size and sometimes identity: A cup is petite, B cup is sporty, C cup is plenty and D cup is voluptuous. What's after D? For fear of offending customers, manufacturers simply doubled it to DD.

If C cups are the midpoint or medium breast size indicator on the cup size scale, then D cups mark the transition towards larger breasts and DD cups are the exact opposite of A cups.

The letter portion of your bra size is your cup size.

Measure around your chest again this time placing the measuring tape at nipple level. This is your bust measurement. Get your cup size by subtracting your band size from your bust size. If the difference is a 1 your cup size is an A, 2 a B, 3 a C, etc.

Bra size has two measurements; the band (rib cage) and the cup (bust). Cup size does not represent breast size but instead represents the difference between the rib cage and the bust.

If your band and underwire are the right size, then the center gore should lay flat against your sternum. You should not be able to move it easily, but it also shouldn't press too hard on your chest. If the center gore of your underwire bra does not lay correctly, then the cups are too small or the band is too loose.

Why do my breasts come out of the bottom of my bra? ›

Your breast tissue spills out of the bottom and sides of your bra for one of two reasons: you're either wearing the wrong cup size, or you're wearing the wrong bra style for your breast shape. Very often, it's simply a matter of the cups being too small.

With less elasticity, the breasts lose firmness and fullness and can develop a stretched and looser appearance. It's not uncommon to change your cup size as you age. Dense breast tissue is replaced by fatty tissue as the aging process continues.

Bra overflow happens when the top of the breast tissue doesn't fit into the cup of the bra. This can happen for a variety of reasons or a combination of them: Cup size. If you're wearing a cup that's too small the cups won't properly cover the correct amount of breast tissue.

Proper cup fit is influenced by band size. As the band size changes, so does the cup size. For every band size you go down, you should go up one cup. If you are in a 34D with a good cup fit, but want to go down to a 32 band, you would go to a 32DD for a tighter band with the same cup fit.

Measuring G cup size in inches

A G cup is roughly either 8 or 9 inches difference between your underbust and overbust measurements. We use UK sizing, and include a FF cup size, so we would say 9 inches.

What is an F Cup Size? If you are f cup breasts, it means that your bust measurement is 6 inches larger than the band measurement. Like other cup sizes, there are lots of differences between f cups. For instance, if your band size is 32 inches and your bust size is 38 inches, your breast size is 32F.

Bra band size

When bra sizes were first conceived in the 1930s, the materials used for bras were a lot stiffer and less flexible – women were only just out of corsets – so manufacturers used to recommend adding 4 inches to your actual size to get the correct band size.

In the United States cup sizes range from A to N. The cup sizes get larger as the letters go up in the alphabet. Size D is bigger than A, and H is bigger than D. Sizes are as follows: AAA, AA, A, B, C, D, DD, F, G, H, I, J, K, L, M, and N.

The volume of the letter is entirely dependent on the band size it is paired with. A 38DD will be one cup size larger than a 36DD, which is in turn one cup size larger than a 34DD, for example. (Looking for more on the mysteries of “DD cup” as a size? DD cup sizes explained has you covered!)

Is DDD bigger than FF? ›

AA(Double A) is the smallest cup size, then it goes up to A, B, C, and then D. After D you can either go up to DD(Double D) or its equivalent E, DDD(Triple D) is the next cup size which turns to be the equivalent of F. Once you hit F/DDD you continue to go up letters like what was done before.

Sister sizes do work well, but it's worth remembering that there are limits to what you can achieve. Sister sizing one up or one down is fine, and you might even be able to push it to two. But beyond that, the proportions of the bra will have changed so much that the bra probably won't be a good fit.

For example a 34D is larger than a 36C. This is not always the case. In the design process, the same capacity bra cup may be paired with different cup sizes and different band sizes. For example, a 34D cup capacity can be paired with a 32DD or 36C, 38B, & 40A.

With standard sizing, you can expect a 32C and a 32D to be bracketed together as a Small, a 34C and a 34D to both be Medium, a 36C and 36D to equate a Large, and so on, up through the fit range.

What's The Average Breast Size In The U.S.? While it's really difficult to precisely determine the standard breast size in the U.S. (or anywhere in the world, for that matter), wedo know that the average breast size in America is a 34DD.

Globally, a natural female breast has an average size somewhere between a large "A" and a smaller "B" in the US size system. According to European or Australian classifications, this would be a "B".

When a woman's shoulders roll forward because of the weight of her breasts, she may suffer from compression in an area called the thoracic outlet—where nerves pass through a narrow opening between the ribs, shoulder blades, and muscles. And compression there can cause upper back pain.

A 40E(DD) cup is the same as a 42D.) Neither your cup or band fit: Go down a band size if they're both too big, or go up a band size if they're both too small. Don't worry about changing your cup size — it'll naturally adjust with your band!

Is a 36ddd an XL? ›

Large: 32D, 32DD, 34C, 34D, 34DD, 36C, 36D. X Large: 36D, 36DD, 38AA, 38A, 38B, 38C, 38D, 38DD, 40AA, 40A, 40B, 40C, 40D, 40DD.

What about DDD sizes? DDD is most commonly used in the US, and converts to an E or F cup in UK sizes – one size up from DD.

Simply put, the difference between a D cup and a DD cup is that; a D cup is larger than an A, B or C cup and slightly smaller than an E cup. On the other hand, a DD cup is slightly larger than an E cup, yet still smaller than an F cup.

If your bust measurement and band measurement are the same number, you're an AA cup. If there's a 1-inch difference between bust and band you're an A cup; 2-inch difference is a B cup, 3 inches is a C cup, 4 inches is a D cup, and so on.

The letter is also interesting and easy to follow. Bras are available in cup sizes ranging normally from A, B, C, D, E, F, and upwards till J. A is the smallest cup size, followed by B which is fuller and then C which is even fuller and then on till J which is obviously the most heavy.

There's a gap at the top of the cups.

When you look down at your bra do you notice space between your breasts and the cup? If so, it's too big. If you aren't able to see any gaps while standing up, try leaning over while looking into a mirror. If there is extra space in your cups it's time for a new size.

An obvious sign that the cups are too small is if the underwire presses in at the sides of the breasts or if you have red marks on your breasts when you take your bra off in the evening. The underwire should enclose and cradle the breasts; it shouldn't pinch anywhere. If it does, you need to go up a cup size.

For less than one inch you are a AA cup, for one inch you are an A cup, for two inches you are a B cup, for three inches you are C cup, for four inches you are a D cup and for five inches you are a DD cup.

Use some string or a cord instead of the measuring tape. Wrap the string around your bust first under the bust line, then on the bust line. Note of the exact length with a pen. Determine the correct dimensions by using a straightedge or folding ruler.

When your bra cup is too big, you will find that your breasts actually bounce around in the cups as you walk. The bra band will likely stay in the same position. However, your breasts will move up and around inside the cups. That's a sign that you've got your cup size all wrong.
