How does a virtual fracture clinic work? ›
Dependent on the outcome of the virtual consultation, a specialist orthopaedic nurse will contact you over the phone to discuss your treatment or provide advice, with a followup appointment if necessary. An appointments booking clerk will contact you to arrange an appointment in most appropriate clinic.
What happens at a fracture clinic appointment? ›
At this appointment the patient, or patient's notes and x-rays will first be reviewed by the doctor and treatment prescribed. Sometimes a further x-ray will be necessary. Treatment will be organised and any further appointment will be under the care of the same consultant at their fracture clinic.
How long does it take to be referred to the fracture clinic? ›
The physiotherapists will then contact the patient within 72 hours of them receiving the referral to discuss their condition and ongoing management plan. After this review, the condition can be managed with one of the following: booked into a specialty orthopaedic clinic.

The boot you have been given is for your comfort only and is not needed to aid fracture healing but will help to settle your symptoms. Follow up: We do not routinely follow up patients with this type of injury.

If supplied, wear the boot for comfort when walking. It is fine to remove the boot to wash and air the foot when not walking. You do not need to wear the boot at night but may do so for comfort if you prefer. Begin gentle movement exercises (as on the previous page).
