The Old Lahaina Luau has been operating since 1986. While the property did not burn during the wildfire, it did suffer wind and smoke damage and lost several trees.

This mountain overlooks the town of Lahaina, Hawaii and is easily identified by the large “L” near the summit. The “L” stands for Lahainaluna high school which is located near the base of the mountain and was founded in 1831. It is said to be the oldest high school west of the Rockies.

Old Lahaina Luau is located on Front Street, the town's famous seaside roadway that suffered extensive damage from fires on August 8, 2023. Most of the businesses on Front Street were destroyed, and despite being surrounded by flames, Old Lahaina Luau suffered only smoke damage.

Hula, A Pacific Dance Tradition

Though it is one of many Pacific dance traditions, hula is distinctively Hawaiian. Hula is often showcased alongside the Samoan fire dance, Tahitian otea, and Maori haka, particularly in lūʻau shows in Hawaiʻi.

Traditional Muumuu (Muʻumuʻu)

Muumuus, which are traditional, loose Hawaiian dresses, are the perfect apparel choice for luaus. A muumuu dress is light and flowing, doesn't restrict movement, and gives the wearer maximum comfort.

Luaus will typically have live music throughout, with dancing acts beginning halfway through the night. These acts include Hawaiian hula of traditional and contemporary styles, as well as other Polynesian traditional performances such as Tahitian hula and Samoan fire knife dancing.
