Gigi Hadid recently opened up about the reason why she finds herself declining magazine covers. The part-Palestinian model, who has fronted more than 35 international Vogue editions, including Vogue Arabia twice, is choosing to not grace covers anymore with a motive she feels strongly about.
Speaking to Hola! the 26-year-old shared that she hopes to make room for emerging models to star on covers by turning them down herself. “There are magazines I say no to because I’d rather another girl have an opportunity to get that cover,” she said. “I don’t need to do the same cover again if someone else’s career could skyrocket because of it.”As one of the world’s highest-paid models, Hadid is now reflecting on her career and the new directions it could take her on. “It’s getting to this point in my career where I don’t only have to take the jobs where I’m just selling clothes,” she said. “Now I get to be like, ‘What have I not done?.’”

This stands true if one were to look back on the past few years that the model has had. While being a mother to Khai, her daughter with former partner Zayn Malik, Hadid has taken on several off-runway roles. In 2020 alone, she competed on the cooking show Beat Bobby Flay, and appeared on an episode of the cartoon program Scooby-Doo. Hadid has also put her experience in fashion to use by serving as a guest judge on Project Runway, as a juror for the LVMH Prize for Young Fashion Designers, and now as a host of the upcoming season two of Next in Fashion with Tan France.
The interview also saw the model share a piece of advice given by mother Yolanda Hadid that has helped her in her career: “There’s always going to be people in the industry who are younger, prettier, up-and-coming. You have to be kinder and more hard-working.”
