Glue for Rhinestones and Jewelry (2024)

When it comes to glue for your SWAROVSKI ELEMENTS projects you may not know where to start. There are so many different kinds of glue, each suited better for certain projects. Below we have a list and information on some of the most popular glues used today.

HYPO CEMENT GLUE

Glue for Rhinestones and Jewelry (1)

Hypo Cement is a perfect, strong glue for all those hard to reach places. The precision applicator makes it easy to set rhinestones in exact placement or in hard to reach areas. Perfect for beading projects because it allows a precise amount of glue to be applied to intricate projects and with a variety of materials.

Unlike an Epoxy glue, Hypo Cement requires no mixing. It also allows for a flexible medium strength bond. It dries clear, is waterproof, and has only a slight odor. It can be used on a number of surfaces including beads, plastic, glass, metals, and woods. Hypo cement is not recommended when using the glue to get a super secure strong bond.

When applying the glue, allow it to become tacky first (usually takes about 10 seconds). It dries in about an hour but give it 24 hours to be fully cured.

There is also a Hypo Cement glue specifically for fabrics. Hypo Cement FABRICis a perfect, strong glue for all those hard to reach places and specifically designed for use on fabric. The precision applicator makes it easy to set rhinestones in exact placements. Like regular hypo cement, it dries clear and is waterproof.

GEM-TAC GLUE

Glue for Rhinestones and Jewelry (2)
Gem-Tac glue is the industry leader for gluing rhinestones onto fabric. This glue is ideal for bonding porous materials such as fabric, wood, and suede, as well as smooth surfaces such as glass, vinyl and metal. This terrific multi-purpose adhesive dries fast and clear and is waterproof. It is also non-toxic and non-flammable.

Before using the glue, please make sure all fabrics are pre-washed and clean. It is always recommended to test a small area before entering into a big project. Only a small amount of glue is needed when applying. Dry cleaning is not recommended.

E-6000

Glue for Rhinestones and Jewelry (3)

E-6000 glue is one of the most popular glues in the craft, apparel and jewelry industries. It has been a long time favorite adhesive by jewelry makers and artists. E6000 is a permanent bonding adhesive. It is a tough, flexible, and highly versatile rubber based compound. It is also washer and dryer safe.

Perfect for setting stones into settings, finishing off a necklace knot, gluing rhinestones to fabric or other materials. E-6000 is waterproof and non-flammable. If using on fabric though, dry cleaning is not recommended.

Helpful Hints for Use:

- Always clean the work area first.
- Roughen up the area as well. This will help give the glue something more to ‘stick’ to.
- Put a small amount of glue on the surface. It is important to use the correct amount of glue, practicing a few times is definitely recommended.
- After gluing, lay the item flat and let cure for 24 hours. This is important for the glue to bond completely.
- You can clean all uncured adhesive with acetone (nail polish remover).

2 PART EPOXY

Glue for Rhinestones and Jewelry (4)

- Properly preparing the surfaces to be glued is a huge factor in successful gluing. Cleaning the surface with alcohol right before gluing is suggested.
- If bonding two metal surfaces together, you must rough them up so they have “a tooth” for the glue to adhere to.
- You also want to be sure to mix two equal parts and apply enough glue for a successful bond.
- Let the glue fully cure. Even if it “looks” dry to the touch, this does not necessarily mean it’s fully cured. Follow the manufacturer’s directions carefully. The bond can be compromised by wearing/moving the jewelry too soon.
