Fendi is considerably unheard of compared to Gucci, one of the leading fashion brands, but which of the two is more expensive?

It’s a difficult competition to judge, but when comparing several popular items, Fendi is considerably more expensive than Gucci. However, there are occasions wherein Gucci is the more expensive. Overall, it’s quite a balanced fight, but Fendi seems to win this one.

Read on to learn more about Gucci, Fendi, and the respective positions they hold within the fashion industry.

Old-World Italian Luxury

Both Fendi and Gucci boast comparable legacies, with both companies having been founded in Italy around one hundred years ago. While Gucci has gone on to build the biggest empire, Fendi has certainly held its own over the last century.

Gucci was founded in 1921 in Florence, and it rapidly rose to become a household name around the world. The label was created by Guccio Gucci, a man with a keen eye for luxurious fashion and accessories.

He created Gucci with the vision of producing and distributing fine leather goods, such as suitcases and handbags. The company remained resilient through constant adversity, such as the sanctions brought on by the Second World War in Italy.

After the war, Gucci’s popularity rose exponentially, and the company expanded out across Europe and beyond. Today, Gucci is one of the most valuable luxury brands on the planet, joining the likes of Louis Vuitton and Hermés at the top of the roster.

Fendi, on the other hand, was founded in Rome, the capital of Italy, in 1925. It was created under similar circ*mstances to Gucci, with a focus on the manufacture and sale of leather goods – but Fendi also had an interest in fur-based products.

It remained a family-owned company until 1999 when powerful fashion forces combined to buy it out from the Fendi family. Since that year, the Fendi label has been owned almost entirely by LVMH, one of the most prominent and valuable fashion conglomerates on the planet.

LVMH also boasts the ownership of brands like Louis Vuitton and Moet et Chandon, two massively popular and exclusive labels. It’s easy to see why LVMH is worth a dramatically high amount, as almost every subsidiary beneath it is equally as expensive.

Head To Head

When we try to pinpoint the most expensive brand out of the two, we’re met with a considerable debate. There’s a tumultuous balance in place, and each fashion house has its strong points; it’s hard to say if one is necessarily more expensive than the other, at least on a general scale.

For example, we compared the cost of women’s designer handbags, and the end result here was a clear victory by Fendi. At the highest end of the spectrum, Fendi’s handbags cost around thirty-eight thousand dollars, a huge sum compared to Gucci’s top end, at around twenty thousand dollars.

On average, you’ll be paying around five thousand dollars for a Gucci handbag, but an average of ten thousand dollars for a Fendi bag. There’s a similar story told by women’s dresses, with Fendi once again sitting at the top of the table.

When you purchase a luxury dress from Fendi, you’re going to be paying around four thousand dollars. However, if you purchased a comparable dress from Gucci, you’d pick up a bill somewhere closer to three thousand dollars.

Conversely, if you were to purchase a man’s jacket from Gucci, you’d be paying more than if you bought one from Fendi. Furthermore, if you were in the market for women’s fashion jewelry, you’d fare better at Fendi than Gucci, as the latter is more expensive in this category.

It’s a difficult one to judge, but it certainly seems like Gucci is the more affordable of the two. Of course, both are still dramatically expensive in their own right, and they’re also remarkably exclusive.

While Fendi is more expensive, Gucci is much more popular and has a more widespread fanbase. In the ‘top fashion brand’ rankings, Fendi rarely even makes the top ten, while Gucci proudly sits near the top of the table.

Ultimately, both of these Italian fashion houses have similar operating models, business practices, and hold a comparable place in the fashion world. They’re both names that will be around for a long time to come, and they have two of the oldest legacies in the industry.

The question of which label is best is always going to be a subjective one – it’s up to you which you prefer.
