Being a modern graphic designer is not easy. With so many threats to your professional livelihood to deal with, it’s a wonder that there are any graphic designers left!

However, when the negative aspects of the job are appropriately dealt with, graphic design is an amazing and rewarding career. To help you find your way in the industry here is my findings of some of the hardest and challengingpart of being a Graphic Designer.

  • As a designer you have toconstantly improve. In this industry if you are standing still, you’re falling behind; you are constantly expanding your portfolio, your designs, your knowledge, your career and more.
  • As a designer you also need toanticipate technological change, adapt to it, master it, excel and then be open to new influences, all in a very short time.
  • Every customer is unique and thinks differently and therefore, envisages the outcome differently. A graphic designer, unlike a doctor or an engineer, cannot just give one solution to solve a problem, and may need to offer multiple solutions that may suit the taste of a customer. And yet, still expect revisions and changes.
  • The main challenges haven't changed too much andthey'll remain pretty similar. The technology evolves and software changes, but the challenge will always be to make great work, stay relevant and stand out.
  • The reality that everyone has an opinion on what looks good/right and they want to implement this on the designer. A patient would never tell the doctor how to fix their broken bone, nor would a customer tell a mechanic how to fix their oil leak, but a business owner will definitely tell their designer that emerald green and yellow would be the best colors for their corporate identity.
  • Designersentering the creative industry not only need expertise in design and typography, conceptual thinking and execution skills, they also need expertise in a variety of disciplines, including motion graphics and interaction design, supported by the latest technology, and coupled with strong presentation skills and should also have some knowledge of development work like HTML and CSS. This will be the most hardest and challenging part of the graphic designers.
  • These days communication skills is also very important for designers. Communicating your design and ideas to other people, at the end of the day if you can’t talk about and explain your design, it may never see the light of day. These days, great designers need to be great sales people too.
  • One of the downsides of the internet revolution is that it has nurtured a generation that doesn't get on the phone or meet a client in person to discuss a brief or creative issues. Most designers rely almost entirely on email and social media to communicate, which can be very one-dimensional and open to interpretation. Personal communication is the foundation of creativity and good business an idea can often be discussed better verbally, which inevitably leads to better solutions.
  • There is also a challenge for those who also work as freelance. they have to manage their job and after the their freelance work. The key is to not take too much work that you cannot be able to manage.

So here are some of the challenges that designers mostly face. Design is not a very stress full job, its a very good and color full job with full of creativity. You should have to manage all these challenges which you will learn with experience.
