The daughter and bride of Ra, Hathor was a Goa'uld queen imprisoned in a sarcophagus in South America for thousands of years. In 1997, she was discovered by a pair of archaeologists, whom she killed before heading for the Stargate -- sensing its hidden location deep within Cheyenne Mountain.

Hathor was one of the forty-two state gods and goddesses of Egypt, and one of the most popular and powerful. She was goddess of many things: love, beauty, music, dancing, fertility, and pleasure. She was the protector of women, though men also worshipped her.

Powers & Abilities

Teleportation: Having been formerly a servant of the underworld, Hathor can teleport from place to place by removing the bracelet given to her by Horus. Once she puts it back on, she will return to Earth.

Hathor, who has been kept as Set's slave, chooses to rebel against him. She grabs her bracelet, which wards off evil spirits, and she takes it off, which plunges her into the world of the evil spirits until she puts it back on and is transported somewhere far from Set.

Hathor could seduce and influence human men, which led to the notoriously outrageous episode of Stargate SG-1 (season 1, episode 14, "Hathor"). After humiliating all the men of the SGC, Hathor escaped with her life. However, she was later killed when Jack O'Neill threw her in a cryogenic tank.

Although in time she came to be considered the ultimate personification of kindness and love, she was initially literally a blood-thirsty deity unleashed on mankind to punish humans for their sins.

Hathor was often depicted as a cow, symbolizing her maternal and celestial aspect, although her most common form was a woman wearing a headdress of cow horns and a sun disk. She could also be represented as a lioness, a cobra, or a sycamore tree.

In Egyptian mythology, Hathor was a complex and important figure. She was a goddess of motherhood, birth, rebirth after death, joy, celebration, gratitude, and renewal of the cosmos. Dance, music, and beauty were related goddess titles. She was particularly associated with women, but her cult was not exclusive to them.

Hathor also possessed stealth technology, allowing her to become completely invisible. She is currently believed to be dead, after Colonel O'Neill tossed her into a cryogenic freezing chamber (without the ever-important cryogenic freezing unit around her).

Therefore, Hathor's constant pursuit by demons can be seen as a reflection of this ongoing cosmic dance, this constant seeking of balance within the universe.

What animal was Hathor linked to? ›

The name Hathor means “estate of Horus” and may not be her original name. Her principal animal form was that of a cow, and she was strongly associated with motherhood.

In the underworld, known as Duat, Hathor provided spiritual nourishment to the souls of the dead. Although her nurturing qualities likened her to Isis and other mother goddesses, she also represented destruction.

After attempting to destroy Earth by sending a naquadah-enhanced nuclear bomb through the Stargate, Ra was killed by Jack O'Neill and Daniel Jackson when they transported the bomb to Ra's mothership -- which was fleeing Abydos after a rebellion by its people.

Anubis was presumed dead, but his formless essence survived the explosion of his mothership. He hitched a ride on a Russian space craft, possessing the body of a cosmonaut and returning to Earth.

He was one of the most powerful enemies of the Tau'ri and a personal enemy (ultimate nemesis) of SG-1. After many years of war, his fleet was destroyed in the Vorash system and Apophis was finally killed for good when his ship crashed into his homeworld Delmak thanks to SG-1 and the Replicators.
