Can anyone attend the Sundance Film Festival? ›

One of the beauties of the Sundance Film Festival is that it's open to everyone. It doesn't matter whether you are a studio boss or a film fan; you pretty much have the same chance of seeing films as anyone else.

The first step is to complete the online submission form, then send a copy of your film to the address provided. The festival receives over 12,500 submissions for around 275 berths, so the chances of selection are quite slim.

Zwicker quoted approximately 4,000 total submissions for feature films, and Barrera 9,000 for shorts. Of these, only 120 or so features make it in each year, and about 60-70 shorts. “Less than one percent,” notes Barrera.

Short films have no premiere requirements or prior screening restrictions that impact Festival eligibility and may have been screened at any number of festivals or other public theatrical exhibitions, broadcast or streamed on television or the Internet, and/or released via any home video or other public distribution ...

Festival submission fees

Even if you submit before the earliest deadline, you might be paying anywhere from $50 to $100 for a single film festival submission. The fees for short films are often less expensive than those for feature films, but regardless of category, the costs can quickly add up.

The film grant evaluation process is grueling. Thousands apply and only a few receive those coveted grants. Film grant applications pass through many stages and multiple evaluators. Nothing about the film making process is easy, especially asking for money.

You must be at least 18 years of age to purchase any package, pass or individual ticket.
