What Are Joggers?

Jogger pants are slim fitting tapered pants that are usually made from a cotton or polyester based blended fabric.

Joggers are different from trousers, jeans, and sweatpants because they are fitted, short, and come in a variety of different colors and styles. Sweatpants are usually thick and baggy, whereas joggers have more of a slim fit and use thinner fabric.

There are 4 different types of joggers, which are: athletic joggers, lounge joggers, everyday joggers, and smart joggers. Joggers are a versatile piece of clothing that can be worn in a variety of different settings with a range of different outfits.

In recent years joggers have seen a dramatic increase in popularity, which is because joggers look sharp and affordable, as well as durable and comfortable.

More Ways To Shorten The Length Of Your Joggers

You can hem your pants in two different ways without sewing. Read below to learn how to cuff your joggers without sewing, as well as how to shrink your joggers in the washing machine.

1. Cuffing joggers by a fold

Cuffing joggers can be done by folding the bottom of the joggers up by 6cm to 10cm, and then once again folding from the bottom until the edge is flush and flat. Use your hands to get wrinkles and creases out of your cuff once you have folded it over.

2. Shrinking joggers in the washing machine

If your joggers are too big or too long you may be able to shrink them to the right size by using the washing machine.

To shrink your joggers, put them into the washing machine and adjust the settings to the hottest water temperature possible. Once your joggers have finished in the wash, place them into the dryer on tumble dry high. Using a high level of heat in both the washing machine as well as the dryer, will help to shrink your joggers, especially if they are made from 100% cotton or a cotton blend fabric.

If you lose the drawstring at anytime during the process you can follow our steps on how to put string back in joggers.

If you find the joggers have shrunk enough in the wash you can instead dry them without a dryer. Two simple methods of air drying are to dry flat and line dry. Once dry, fold your joggers and put away properly.

How To Hem Sweatpants

Hemming sweatpants is similar to hemming joggers and follows most of the same basic steps.

Start by removing the seams on the bottom of your sweatpants and taking the elastic out. Measure to where you want the new bottom to be; make sure to include fabric for the new hem and cuff. Once you have made your cuts, fold the sweatpants up and place the elastic back around the bottom. Fold the sweatpants back over the elastic band then sew a new seam and cuff with the elastic back inside.

Fold your sweatpants one last time and put them away, ready to wear the next time you want.

To hem your sweatpants you can go to a tailor, or alter them yourselves with can you tailor sweatpants.

FAQ

For joggers that are too long the most effective way to shorten them is by hemming the bottom. If you do not know how to sew you may also try shrinking your joggers in the washing machine, or folding the cuffs upwards.

To hem joggers first open the seam and remove the elastic band inside the cuff. Measure where you want the new bottom to be and use a fabric marker to make a line to cut. Use fabric scissors to cut the fabric and pin up the cuff. Place the elastic band back around the cuff and fold the fabric over to cover it. Sew the seams to create a new hem.

To shorten joggers with a cuff, first fold the bottom of the joggers up to your desired new length. Fold the bottom once more and use your hands to remove wrinkles from the new cuff.

The length of your joggers can be altered either by cuffing, hemming, or shrinking. The method you choose will depend on how much you wish to alter the length of your pants.
