My kids decorate EVERYTHING with sticker decals… water bottles, laptops, notebooks, tablet cases, binders and pretty much anything that a decal will stick to! There are tons of awesome decals available on Amazon (of which we have purchased MANY!) However, when someone in ourFacebook group told me how to make stickers (homemade ones!) using just tape and parchment paper, I knew I had to test it out. The verdict is in… we made a few tweaks to perfect the method and are officially addicted to making homemade sticker decals!

Originally, I was told to use wax paper. Trust me, you do not want to do that! After lots of experimentation, I can promise you that parchment paper is DEFINITELY the way to go when making your own sticker decals!
How to Make Stickers (Homemade!) with Tape & Parchment Paper
We used a combination of fun images that we cut out of magazines, as well as a Cincinnati Reds (our baseball team) logo that we printed out. If you are looking for a particular image for your sticker decal, try searching google for the name + “clipart.” For example, if you wanted to make a unicorn decal, you would search for the term “unicorn clipart.”
1. Cut out your images
Whether you use clipart images that your print out or magazine graphics, cut each image out into the shape you want for your DIY decal sticker.
2. Put a piece of packing tape onto parchment paper
Place a piece of packing tape (sticky side down) onto your parchment paper. You will see in the photo below that we initially tried to use wax paper, because that was what many tutorials suggested. I do NOT recommend using wax paper though. It is much harder to peel your sticker off of wax paper, and your sticker gets a waxy residue (which decreases the sticking power!) So, for the rest of these images, just imagine that you see parchment paper and not wax paper!
3. Place your image on top of the packing tape
Arrange your image (or multiple images) on top of the packing tape that you just stuck onto the parchment paper. We were able to fit four of our images onto the piece of packing tape, as shown below.
4. Take another piece of packing tape and place it on top of the images
Cut another piece of packing tape to be around the same size as the piece from step 2. Place it on top of your images, and smooth it to make sure there are no bubbles. I gave the kids an old plastic gift card to press down firmly across the top of the DIY sticker decals.
5. Cut out the DIY sticker decals
Carefully cut out the DIY sticker decals. Make sure that you leave a decent amount of extra space around your stickers, so that they remain more waterproof and durable.
6. Peel the parchment paper off the back
Flip your DIY sticker decal over and peel the parchment paper off the back of it.
7. Press the DIY sticker decal firmly onto the surface you place it on
Pick what you want to decorate with your DIY sticker decal! We tried it out on a water bottle and a plastic cup. Press the sticker firmly onto the surface and go over it with something like a plastic gift card, a spoon or even your fingernail! Make sure to avoid bubbles and to focus especially on the edges.
