Lies Of P: How To Get All Endings (2024)

Lies of P is one of the best Soulslikes not made by the genre's most iconic developer, FromSoftware. It brings some brilliant new features to the genre which, combined with its fast-paced and satisfying combat, atmospheric world, and brilliantly designed bosses, make it one that Souls fans won't want to miss.

Its gothic-Victorian setting has drawn numerous comparisons with Bloodborne and, like FromSoftware's beloved title, Lies of P also includes several different endings. Which one the player gets depends both on a key end-game decision and Pinocchio's level of humanity, which is impacted by the player's actions throughout the game. Here's how to unlock each ending, what happens in each one, and how to beat one of the game's toughest bosses, the Nameless Puppet.

Updated on February 23, 2024 by Noelle Warner: Lies of P has grabbed players' attention with its fresh spin on the Soulslike genre, and even months after the game's release, fans are still interested in learning more about it. This guide has been updated to include even more information about Lies of P's various endings, as well as to synch the content up with CBR's most recent editorial standards.

Lies of P: How to Complete the Crafted Cryptic Vessel

Lies of P's Cryptic Vessels are secret clues to the whereabouts of hidden loot. Here's where to find the Crafted Cryptic Vessel and how to solve it.

The "Real Boy: They All Lived Happily Ever After" ending is by far the easiest to obtain as it lets players skip arguably the toughest boss battle in the game. Despite its name, it's also without a doubt the bleakest and darkest ending. To obtain this ending, the only thing that matters is an end-game choice. After the player has defeated Simon Manus and taken the lift down to the "Under the Abyss" Stargazer, they'll come face to face with Pinocchio's creator and father, Geppetto. He'll ask his puppet son for his heart, promising to make him "a real boy." Players should agree to this request to unlock the "Real Boy" ending.

Geppetto thanks Pinocchio as he embraces him, before ripping his heart from his chest. The now-empty puppet falls to the floor and watches on as Geppetto puts the heart back into his deceased son, Carlo, to bring him back to life. However, as players have learned throughout the game, a lot of Ergo, harvested from the death of others, is also needed to complete the revival process. Geppetto's actions throughout the game are therefore highlighted as being a selfishly evil way of sacrificing others for the sake of his son.

The "Real Boy" ending continues as Geppetto stands at the front of Hotel Krat. The revived Carlo emerges behind him with a smile as his father says, "This finally feels like family. Thank you for returning, Carlo." The camera pans out as he says these words to reveal the dead bodies of Hotel Krat's residents strewn across the floor, likely harvested for their Ergo and discarded without regard. As the screen fades to black, Sophia's voice asks "Is this truly the future you wanted?"

The "Rise Of P" Ending

Conditions For This Ending:

  • Must have high level Humanity before interacting with Sophia
  • Speak to Sophia at the Ascension Bridge after defeating Laxasia the Complete and choose the "Give her Peace" dialogue option
  • Defeat Simon Manus, Awakened God
  • Refuse to give Geppetto P's heart
  • Defeat the Nameless Puppet

Lies of P: How to Complete the Jeweled Cryptic Vessel

Lies of P's Cryptic Vessels are secret clues to the whereabouts of hidden loot. Here's where to find the Jeweled Cryptic Vessel and how to solve it.

The "Rise of P" ending is likely the game's true ending. It's also the best outcome. To achieve it, players must make two key choices and finish the game with a high level of humanity. Throughout the game, Pinocchio can grow his humanity in several ways, allowing him to almost transcend beyond his puppet status. He can do this by acting like a human, in a way that ordinary puppets can't.

For example, players should lie as much as possible and choose options that display humanity and compassion. Opportunities to do so arise throughout the main story, but side quests and completing Arlecchino's riddles also play a key part so are essential for players wanting to unlock the "Rise of P" ending. Listening to musical records, which can be found throughout the world or given as rewards from NPCs, also raises Pinocchio's humanity. It's important to note that they must be listened to from start to finish to have an impact. Although players don't have to complete every lie, riddle, and side quest or listen to every record, it's advisable to do so at every opportunity.

Lies of P gives players subtle signs that signal the growth of Pinocchio's humanity. For example, his hair will grow like a real human's and the cat in Hotel Krat will begin to warm to him and accept being petted. The biggest clue, though, is the wording that appears when the player chooses a human action, such as lying, displaying compassion, or listening to the records. At the start, the game comments that "Your Springs are Reacting" before changing to "The Ergo is Whispering" and then "You Feel Warmth". Once players have reached this third stage, they're ready to progress the story and make some key choices to get the "Rise of P" ending.

Why FromSoftware Characters Are So Endearing

From Demon's Souls to Armored Core VI, FromSoftware has a huge roster of NPCs who are all strangely compelling.

After defeating Laxasia the Complete in the Arche Abbey Prayer Room after the Arche Abbey Broken Rift in the game's eleventh and final area, players will finally come face to face with the real Sophia. She's been imprisoned by Simon Manus, who's using a machine to harness her power in an attempt to turn himself into a God. She begs Pinocchio to free her from her torment and take her Ergo. It's imperative that players choose the "Give her Peace" option and not "Let her Live" if they want the "Rise of P" ending.

Having set Sophia free, Pinocchio will reach the last stage of humanity. His hair will turn gray, and the game will comment that "Your Heart is Pounding." These two things signal that players are on the right track. The final key to getting the "Rise of P" ending is to refuse to give Geppetto Pinocchio's heart at the end of the game. Doing so will anger him and start an incredibly tough fight with the Nameless Puppet, which is explained in more detail at the end of this article.

Once players beat the Nameless Puppet's second phase, a cutscene will trigger where the Nameless Puppet lunges toward Pinocchio, ready to deal a fatal blow. However, just before he makes contact, Geppetto throws himself in front of the blade, protecting his son's heart. Pinocchio finishes off the puppet before holding Geppeto as he dies. His last words are "I'm sorry, son" with a real emphasis on recognizing the puppet Pinocchio as his real, human son. Pinocchio then uses the Ergo to revive Sophia as she says "It's so good to see you" as he collapses in her arms. A small twitch lets the player know that he's still alive.

Games Keep Learning the Wrong Lesson From Dark Souls

Dark Souls and its antecedent Demon's Souls changed the gaming industry, but some of its imitators came away with the wrong lesson.

The "Free from the Puppet String" ending falls between the previous two. It's not completely evil like the "Real Boy" ending, but it doesn't have the full arc of the "Rise of P" ending either. It's achieved by not having a high enough level of humanity and letting Sophia live when she begs for peace.

To obtain this ending, players will want to tell the truth throughout the game, including telling Simon Manus that they liberated Sophia from Arche Abbey rather than giving her peace. Finally, players must refuse to give Geppetto Pinocchio's heart at the end of the game. As with the "Rise of P" ending, going against Geppetto's orders will anger him and start the Nameless Puppet boss fight. This fight is arguably the hardest in the game and will be explained in more detail at the end of this article.

The start of the final cutscene in the "Free from the Puppet String" ending is the same as the "Rise of P" ending. Geppetto once again sacrifices himself to protect his son's heart from the Nameless Puppet's blade. However, unlike in the "Rise of P" ending, he instead scolds Pinocchio, saying, "I... knew it... You're just a useless... puppet..." emphasizing how he doesn't see him as his real son. The game then ends without Sophia being revived as she is in the "Rise of P" ending.

Every FromSoftware Soulslike Game, Ranked From Easiest to Hardest

Starting with Demon's Souls, FromSoftware's Souls games are renowned for their difficulty. Even in this franchise, some games are harder than others.

Although Lies of P overall is one of the less punishing Soulslikes, the Nameless Puppet is still an incredibly tough fight and arguably the hardest in the game. Its two phases, quick movement, and unrelenting combos make it a real challenge even for those well-versed in the Soulslike genre. Fortunately, it does have a few weaknesses for players to target.

The Nameless Puppet is noticeably weak to two things: electricity and stagger. Players should equip plenty of Electric Blitz Canisters and Electric Blitz Abrasives to electrocute the Nameless Puppet and deal constant damage. However, the most useful approach will be to stagger him with heavy attacks and perfect guards.

There's a P-Organ upgrade that gives Pinocchio two Grindstone uses and an attribute that can extend the duration of Grindstones. Having these ready, equip the Perfection Grindstone which automatically turns every block into a perfect guard. As with many Soulslike bosses, having the patience to learn the Nameless Puppet's attack patterns will be vital.

Players will quickly learn that some of his attacks are fairly straightforward, so they shouldn't waste the grindstone on these attacks, opting to perfect guard or dodge them instead. However, as he lines up a faster combo, it's best to use the Perfection Grindstone to deal heavy stagger damage. He'll then open up for a fatal attack where players can deal a good chunk of damage. Repeating this process and remaining patient will be key to victory.
