“Lee’s final request” carried out May 29 on the Isle of Skye.
LONDON – Lee Alexander McQueen’s ashes have been buried at Kilmuir, on the Isle of Skye in Scotland, his family said in a statement.
The designer, who suffered from anxiety and depression, committed suicide in February, and the burial took place on May 29.
“Lee cherished the times that he was able to spend on the Isle of Skye – he enjoyed the beauty, peace and tranquility. It was Lee’s final request that his ashes should be buried at Kilmuir,” the statement said.
“The McQueen family would like to make a special acknowledgement to Isabella MacDonald and her family of Kinloch Lodge Hotel, whose support at this sad time was of immense help in making it possible for them to carry out Lee’s wishes,” it added.
Kilmuir is located on the northern part of the island, is known for its dramatic rock formations and seascapes.
A memorial service for McQueen is set to take place later this year, although a date has not yet been finalized.
