Meghan Markle Engagement Ring: A Deep Dive (2024)

When we first saw a diamond ring on Meghan’s finger back in 2017, we knew – the “Meghan Markle Engagement Ring Phenomenon” was going to be a thing. Readers not only sent us queries about the ring and how to get their own version then, but years later we still get hundreds of emails every year about sourcing a ring *just* like Meghan’s. We thought that it was time to take another look at the gem, its history, and where you can find the best quality #MirrorMeg on the market.

If you’ve been watching Meghan and her fashion for years as we have, you will know that there have been many different facets to her style: from bold & colourful to muted & monochromatic and everything in between. Her style has changed as she has evolved, yet she always has managed to stay true to who she is. One of the constants in her style since 2017 has been her engagement ring – although even it too has evolved.

When we first caught a glimpse at the rock on her finger back on November 27, 2017, we learned that Prince Harry had designed the bespoke three-stone piece with the help of Cleave & Company, the late Queen Elizabeth’s regular jeweller. Meghan’s engagement ring has three stones, a style known as a trilogy ring. The cushion-cut centre diamond of Meghan’s engagement ring is estimated to be roughly three carats and was sourced from Botswana. The smaller side diamonds came from the personal collection of Princess Diana. The value of Meghan’s engagement ring is estimated to be upwards of $200,000 USD.

In 2019, royal watchers noticed that something had changed with Meghan’s engagement ring. Meghan’s yellow gold engagement ring band, which Harry said he had chosen because it was her favorite, had been replaced with a thin micro-pavé band. Adding these additional diamonds only increased the value of the ring too, leaving those looking to emulate Meghan’s ring with a challenge of not being able to afford it without royal relatives stepping up to help out with heirloom diamonds. While there are various costume-jewelry style versions of the ring which can be found, none are intended to be used as the heirloom that so many of our readers were searching for.

We were so excited when we heard that Ben Garelick, a family-owned jeweller, had crafted a special version of Meghan’s ring that would be available to fans of the Meghan Markle engagement ring style, but with an affordable price-tag – their replica retails from $4,995 USD.

Inspired by theduch*ess of Sussex’s diamond engagement ring, Ben Garelick‘s version of Meghan Markle engagement ring is called “The Meghan”. They’ve made an update to the design of Meghan’s ring by adding double claw prongs to hold the center and side stones. The three stone cushion & round cut engagement ring features a large 3 carat elongated cushion cut stone (available as a Moissanite gemstone or lab-grown diamond) with double claw prongs, two round cut side stones weighing approximately 0.95 carats each and round cut natural mined pave set diamonds in the shank weighing 0.20 carats total weight.Peter Manka from Ben Garelick shared this with the Meghan’s Mirror team about crafting the “Meghan”ring:

“It was an honor to work on Meghan’s updated (and upgraded) version of her engagement ring designed by Prince Harry. What possibly could we do to improve on a classic ring which has been popular through the ages? Her three-stone ring typically represents the past, present, and future of a couple’s journey/relationship with each of the three center diamonds representing one of these stages. The team at Ben Garelick thought it would be nice to add a touch of modernity to Meghan’s ring and change the center prongs to claw prongs, which are very much trending these days.”

If you’re looking for some more love stories beyond the epic one of Harry & Meghan, we love that Ben Garelick posts “Happily Ever After” stories on their websites, featuring some of their rings (like the image below). Hopefully we can see a #MirrorMeg story pop up on the website soon 💞.
