The Parisian scarf, otherwise known as the classic French wardrobe staple, is always chic and always a great way to add some French flair to an otherwise simple outfit.

Parisian Scarf: How-To

The French have many different ways they tie their scarves, but I thought I’d share some of the few most commonly worn looks I’ve seen when I’ve traveled to Paris.

1. The Classic French Knot:

This look is easy and can done with any scarf, although a printed satin one is always nice. It’s perfect for late spring or summer. Simply fold up your scarf until it’s one thin band. Wrap the band around your neck, crossing the two ends behind your neck. Bring the two ends to the front of your neck and tie a knot just under your chin. Slightly turn the scarf so that the knot is on the side of your neck, then make a double knot.

2. The Over-the-Shoulder Look:

One of the most alluring aspects of the French scarf is the seemingly effortless way the French tend to include it in their look. In the over-the-shoulder look, a scarf is hung around the neck, with each end of the scarf flipped over the opposite shoulder. In some instances, only one end is flipped over the shoulder.

3. The Triangle:

This fun, modern twist is almost like wearing a backwards scarf. All you have to do is fold a scarf in half to create a large triangle, then place the triangle shape in the front of your neck (with the pointed tip facing down) and make a knot in the back with the loose ends or you can bring them forward to hang in the front.
