Does PayPal really protect the buyer? ›

Protection you can count on. PayPal's Buyer Protection program entitles you to reimbursem*nt for the full purchase price of the item plus the original shipping costs you paid, if any when you don't receive your item from a seller, or when you receive an item, but the item isn't what you ordered.

What's not Covered? Intangible items like services, real estate, motorized vehicles (of any kind), custom made items, travel tickets, industrial machinery (for manufacturing), prepaid or gift cards, anything you buy in person, or items that violate PayPal's policies or eBay's policies.

Protecting our buyers. We know sometimes things don't go smoothly as planned. Therefore, if an eligible item you've bought online doesn't arrive or doesn't match the seller's description, we can reimburse you for the full purchase amount of the item plus postage.

PayPal Buyer Protection may apply when you encounter these specific problems with a transaction: You didn't receive your item from a seller (referred to as an “Item Not Received” claim), or. You received an item, but the item isn't what you ordered (referred to as a “Significantly Not as Described” claim).

That helps the buyer and the seller to quickly get relevant, just-in-time details on the package's location. The absence of such data means you'll lose the dispute. PayPal will automatically side with the customer if you don't have trackable proof of delivery.

Ineligible Items and Transactions

To be eligible for PayPal Buyer Protection you must meet all of the following requirements: Have a PayPal account in good standing. Pay for the eligible item from your PayPal account. Attempt to contact the seller to resolve your issue directly before filing a claim through the PayPal Resolution Centre.
