Hulu’s dystopian show has been shocking audiences with major cliffhangers and mind-blowing twists since it first premiered in 2017. However, this new spoiler teases that Serena Joy (played by Yvonne Strahovski) could lose her baby in what could be the most deserved turn in all of The Handmaid’s Tale. Serena Joy Waterford was introduced to viewers as the wife of Commander Fred Waterford (Joseph Fiennes). Together they obtained June Osborne (Elisabeth Moss) as a Handmaid and it was her duty to conceive for the couple as Serena was seemingly infertile.

In Gilead, the Handmaid’s were forced to take part in the Ceremony, which was an important ritual where Commanders would rape their Handmaid whilst the Wife held them down in hopes of conceiving.
As the global birth rate was in decline, Gilead prided themselves on using the Ceremony to remedy the effect and fruitful Handmaids in high regard.
After noticing that Fred’s attempts were unsuccessful, Serena suggested that his driver Nick Blaine (Max Minghella) should secretly impregnate June.
June became pregnant however later in the series, she was able to help the baby escape Gilead after she gave birth.

In a shocking turn of events in season four, Fred and Serena were placed in custody under Canadian law when they crossed the border.
Serena had betrayed Fred and turned him in for his crimes committed in Gilead, all in hopes of seeing baby Nichole again.
However, Fred flipped the script and let the state know about Serena’s involvement in establishing the Gileadean state, and she too was charged and held in custody.
Whilst awaiting trial Serena made the shocking discovery that she was pregnant with Fred’s baby.

With June living free in Canada, her witness statement threatened the prospects of Serena becoming the mother she so desperately wanted to be.
In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, actress Yvonne Strahovski revealed that Serena could in fact lose her sought-after baby: "It is hard to trust her because you see the wheels turning in her brain even when she's begging for forgiveness from June."
In episode seven titled Home, Serena and June were reunited, Serena was begging and pleading for forgiveness whilst June was full of rage and screamed in her face telling her she hoped her baby dies.
Yvonne continues: "I think there's a huge genuine part of her that really does want that forgiveness, but it's purely for selfish reasons.

Serena losing her baby could be the payback she receives for her role in establishing Gilead.
Handmaids who were mothers before Gilead had their children taken away from them and they were placed in a different home, forbidden all contact.
In the most recent episode fans watched as Serena battled with the thought of returning to Gilead or staying in Canada if they were to gain freedom.

    However, with this new spoiler, it looks as though, Serena may not even keep her child.
