Selling on Vinted

Getting started

So, you've decided it's time to clear out and make some extra cash! The first thing to do is download the free Vintedapp.

You'll need to choose a username and set up a profile - think carefully as you can't usually change this at a later date! You can then upload a photo and write a short bio. Make sure you enter your bank detailstoo, so you're all set up toreceive payments.

Listing your items

Once your Vinted profile is set up, it's time to clear out and decide what to sell. Women's fashion and kids' clothing are the most popular categories, but you can sell other items too such as toys, homewares and beauty products. New items, especially with the tags still on, will often sell for more but you can sell used itemstoo, as long as you upload an accurate description. There are some items you can't sell on Vinted though, so always check if you're unsure. See a full list here.

Listing your items is super quick! Take good quality photographs to attract buyers, including close-ups of key details, brand/size labels and any imperfections too.In the description, try to include as many search terms as possible, for example not just 'Uggs' but 'Chestnut Ultra Mini Ugg Boots - size 5'.

Unlike eBay, Vinted isn't an auction marketplace so you'll need to set a price for each item. It's a good idea to research item value first. For instance you couldsearch Vintedfor anything similar that is already listed or check other selling sites for recently sold. Note that the 'make an offer' button appears on every listing, so potential buyers can offer up to 40% less than the listed price, so be prepared to haggle! By being open to offers, you are increasing your chances of selling. However, bear this in mind when pricing.

The bestnews? Unlike many other reselling apps/websites, selling is totally free on Vinted. No fees meansyou'll get 100% of the agreed sale price!

Making the sale

When an item sells, you've got five working days to ship to the buyer. It's essential to post within this time otherwise the sale will be cancelled and you'll automatically receive negative feedback. Buyers pay for postage, you'll usually just need to print a shipping label through the app (you can edit the postal services you offer in your account settings). So, it's a super easy process!

Vinted is a social marketplace so other users can follow your page and you can share your profile on social media to reach more potential buyers. You can follow other users which will attract people to your own page too. Users can also favourite your items. This allows you to message them with a lower offer, if you want to. Alternatively, if you reduce the listing price at a later date, users who have previously 'favourited' the item will be notified - a great way to increase the chance of a sale!

You can also offer bundle discounts, encouraging people to buy multiple items from you. It's a handy feature for sellers and buyers alike.Go to your profile settings and hit 'Bundle Discounts' and you can automatically offer up to 50% off.

Think about the seasonality of your items too. For instance, a Christmas jumper is less likelyto sell in the summer, but it's a great time to clear out your old holiday clothes!

Although selling is free, Vinted offers a range of optional paid features to boost your listings and help you maximise sales. You can bump an individual item which will push your item to the top of searches. You can also spotlight your full wardrobe, but this isn't cheap at £6.95 for a week. It can be worth it if you're having a huge clear out though.

Once the buyer receives an item, they have 48 hours to report any problems. If the buyer leaves positive feedback, your funds will become available in your Vinted balance, but even if they don't leave feedback, the funds will be available after this time has passed (as long as no problems are reported). You can then withdraw to your bank account or use the funds to spend on Vinted!

If you're heading on holiday or you're unable to ship for any reason, make sure you turn on 'Holiday mode.' This will hide your items whilst you're away and avoid anyone buying (whilst you're unable to post) and hence avoid any unwated negative reviews.

Buying on Vinted

Finding items

Finding items you love is easy on Vinted. You can easily filter your search by category, size, product type, brand, condition orcolour. You can then sort the results by relevance, price, or newest first to find exactly what you're looking for.Vinted lets you save searches too, so you can keep checking for new listings (the best items don't stick around for long)!

If you're not looking for anything specific, the 'Recommended for you' section is another great way to find treasures. Vinted will recommend items based on your search history and previous purchases. You can also follow members pages if you love the items they sell and you'll be notified about any new uploads.

It's always best to buy from sellers with positive reviews. Multiple bad reviews are a red flag - but you can find more tips to shop safely on Vinted here.

Getting the best price

If you find an item you love and it's reasonably priced, it's sometimes best to just snap it up straight away with the 'Buy now' button. This is great for those in-demand items or recently uploaded items that you think will sell out. Making a lower offer is a risk and could result in you losing the item.

With that being said, haggling is what Vinted is all about! With the 'Make an offer' button you can offer up to 40% less than the listed price. You can only send five offers per day, but you can still message buyers to negotiate a lower price. Many sellers will offer combined delivery or money off discount when you buy multiple items together, so this is another great way to get more bang for your buck.

Perhaps you've found an item you're interested in, but you're not 100% sold. Simply tap the small heart icon to favourite the item and you can come back to it later (if it doesn't sell in the meantime). Plus, you'll be updated if the price is reduced or the seller might send you adiscounted offer.

As a buyer, it's a good idea to shop out of season too. There will be less demand and you're more likely to snap up a great deal!

Remember that buyers pay fees and postage on Vinted, so factor that in when making an offer. Click 'Buy' to see the total amount you'll need to pay. Scroll down to see the postage options too, as Vinted will usually auto-tick the priciest option!
