Proposals are generally considered a two-party affair, the proposer, and the proposee. The truth is, however, proposals are more than two people taking the next step in their relationship. When you ask her to marry you, you’re also asking her to be your parent’s daughter. If you have siblings, you’re asking her to be their sister. When you ask her to marry you, you’re also inviting yourself into her family, whether as a new son, grandson, or brother for her loved ones.
Before proposing, think about the people who matter most in both your life and hers. It’s a safe bet to say parents, siblings, grandparents, or other close family members should be in-the-know before you pop the question. Sometimes, best friends can even be included. Doing so will not only show respect to the people who raised your wife-to-be, but it will also acknowledge their importance in your life. Remember that as much as it is a day to celebrate your relationship, it’s their day to celebrate as well. Just be sure that your new family and friends can keep a secret, first!
About Megan Ellis
My love for all things wedding and romance led me to The Yes Girls in 2015, where I was given the opportunity to share my current "swoons" weekly via The Yes Girls' blog. Four years later, I know get to help people across the world propose to the love of their life- and it's the absolute best job I could possibly ask for!
