Does iMessage always show delivered? ›

The “Delivered” status usually appears when the recipient's device has successfully received the message from Apple's servers. However, it's important to note that the delivery status does not guarantee that the recipient has actually seen or read the message.

If you see the words “Delivered” or “Read,” then it means that person has received your message.

For most messaging apps, you might see a single tick, or the delivery status, which is usually visible right under or next to your message, might say 'Sent' instead of 'Delivered. ' If your text message does not say 'Delivered,' it means it has been floated from your end, but the recipient hasn't really received it.

If the recipient's phone is turned on but lacks internet connectivity, iMessage cannot transmit the message. In such cases, the “delivered” status will not be displayed until the recipient's device establishes a connection.

The "Delivered" in the iPhone Messages app does not mean that the message was received by phone, or read by the user. It just means that the message was delivered to Apple's servers and it is being sent to your contact. Delivered just means that the message has been received by the other persons phone/iPad/iPod etc.

There are a few reasons why this might have happened. You might be sending the message to a non-Apple device. Only Apple devices support iMessage, so this isn't unusual. But it's also possible that iMessage might be turned off on your phone or the recipient's device.

You will only see a status of Delivered, which means that your message has reached their phone, but not necessarily that they have opened it. The only way to get read receipts for SMS messages is to use a third-party app that supports them, such as WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, or Signal.

On iPhones running iOS 16.5 or later, the space below your last text will say Delivered whether you're blocked or not on iMessages. If your phone is running iOS 16.4 or earlier and you see Delivered beneath your last text, you're not blocked.

If your number is blocked and you attempt to send an iMessage to the recipient who blocked you, the blue bubble will still appear and it will look like your message actually was sent (although it won't show a “Delivered” confirmation).

While messages are technically received during DND, they won't generate notifications. Recipients in DND mode need to actively check their messages to see delivered content.

Seeing a Not Delivered message below your last text is not a sign you've been blocked. If you spot this message, it only means there was an error in sending your message.

Go to Settings > Messages. Turn off Send Read Receipts.
