Stores of Apple Inc., Tiffany & Co. and Lululemon Athletica Inc. are among the retailers outperforming the rest of the market in terms of sales per square foot, according to research from real estate information provider CoStar Group Inc. and eMarketer Inc.
The average sales per square foot for retailers has fallen to about $325 in recent years, down from nearly $375 in the early 2000s, according to a release on PRNewswire summarizing the research.
Apple is the top retailer overall with the highest sales per square foot of $5,546, while Tiffany & Co. leads the jewelry retail business with sales of $2,951 per square foot.
Among apparel retailers, Lululemon garners the highest sales per square foot of $1,560, and Murphy USA is the leading gasoline retailer with sales of $3,721 per square foot.
Vending machine operator Generation Next Franchise Brands Inc., which owns Reis & Irvy's frozen yogurt vending kiosks, is the top food service retailer, with sales of $3,970 per square foot.
