I found your conversion of gallon to # 10 can. I can not get one # 10 can to fill a gallon. Are there any other # 10 can that I do not know about? I use # 10 cans in a kitchen.
Thanks!
David ???

The #10 cans are the great big cans, like the kind restaurants use.

You are probably thinking of the #2.5 cans which are the smaller cans like you find at the grocery store.

The #10 can does hold a U.S. gallon of liquid.

No, I mean it. I tried to fill a # 10 can with one gallon of water and the can over-flowed. I work in a kitchen. So I searched alittle and found these sites:
http://www.amescompany.com/CAN_SIZES.htm
http://web.singnet.com.sg/~dan123/cansizes.htm
I also found the following:
Can Size Approx. Wt. Cupfuls
6 oz 6 oz ¾
8 oz 8 oz 1
No. 1 10-12 oz 1¼ to 1½
No. 300 14-16 oz 1¾
No. 1½ or 303 1 lb.- 17 oz 2
No. 2 1 lb.4oz or 1 pt 2 fl oz 2½
No. 2½ 1 lb.12oz to 1lb.14oz 3½
No. 3 cylinder or 46oz 3 lb.3oz or 1 qt.14oz 5¾
No. 10 6 lb.2oz to 7 lbs.5oz 12 to 13
and...
Can Size - Appx net weight or fluid measure - Appx cups per can

No. 10....................6lb - 7lb..............9 - 12
No. 5 squat.............4 lb - 4 1/4lb.......8
No. 3 Cyl.................46 - 51 fl. oz.......5 3/4
No. 2 1/2.................26 - 30oz.............3 1/2
No. 2.......................18 - 20 fl. oz........2 1/2
No. 303....................1 lb.....................2
No. 300....................14 - 16oz.............1 3/4
No. 1 (Picnic)...........10 1/2oz..............1 1/4
8oz...........................8oz....................1

Recipe

Notes: When substituting one can for another size,
one No. 10 can is approximately equivalent to:

7 of #303 (1 lb) cans
5 of #2 (1lb 4oz) cans
4 of #2 1/2 (1 lb 13oz) cans
2 of #3 (46 - 50oz) cans

Size # Weight Cups Servings
1/4 4 oz 1/2 1
3/8 6 oz 3/4 1
1/2 8 oz 1 2
1 picnic 10 1/2 1 1/4 2 to 3
211 12 oz 1 1/2 3 to 4
300 13 1/2 oz 1 3/4 to 2 3 to 4
303 15 1/2 oz 2 4
2 20 oz 2 1/2 5
2 1/2 28 1/2 oz 3 1/2 7
3 33 1/2 oz 4 1/4 8
3 cylinder 46 oz 5 3/4 10 to 12
5 56 oz 7 14
10 103 1/2 oz 13 25

So I have found that there are ALOT of different sizes of # 10 cans:)
