Estimated to be worth up to £1 million, Queen Elizabeth II's iconic three-strand pearl necklace has passed down to her only daughter, the Princess Royal
By Joshua Hendren
Following the death of Queen Elizabeth II, Princess Anne has inherited her mother’s favourite piece of jewellery.
A gift from her father, King George VI, the three-strand pearl necklace became an iconic element of the late monarch’s signature look. Estimated to be worth up to £1 million, the glimmering pearls will now pass down to her daughter, Princess Anne, who was seen sporting the piece not long ago.
Attending a reception for the English Speaking Union in New York on October 7th, the Princess Royal paired the lustrous strands with matching pearl drop earrings.
Queen Elizabeth II’s pearl necklace remains a particularly meaningful reminderof the close relationship thelate monarch shared with herfatherwho passed away in 1952. In fact, the Queen loved her pearl necklace so much that she had several backups made. The second replica was entirely identical, while the third, a gift from Emir of Qatar in 1953, came fastened with a diamond clasp by court jeweller Garrard.
Kate, Princess of Waleshas also been spotted wearing one of Her Majesty’s three-strand pearl necklaces. Most recently, during a lunch held for governors-general of the Commonwealth nations at Buckingham Palace ahead of the state funeral.
