Greenhouse Academy has become the latest show to be canceled by Netflix, with the recent Season 4 set to be the last set of episodes for the show. Netflix's cancellation of the show was confirmed by star Cinthya Carmona and executive producer Orly Atlas-Katz in a recent interview.
Cinthya Carmona, who plays Sophie Cardona on Greenhouse Academy, revealed to The Sun that Netflix and the cast and crew, "don't have any plans to continue to film Greenhouse Academy."
She added: "We did four seasons of it, and I was so fortunate to be able to be on it from day one. Greenhouse is the first series that I got to be part of from the very, very beginning...[I] really set the tone for everything, and that's a memory and a milestone in my career that I cherish so much."
Orly Atlas-Katz also confirmed to the website that the show would not return for Season 5, meaning that the recent Greenhouse Academy Season 4 season finale was also the show's series finale.
Why has Greenhouse Academy been canceled?
Netflix has revealed why it canceled Greenhouse Academy after four seasons, but it is far from the only show that ended on the streaming service after Season 4.
This year alone, 13 Reasons Why and Alexa and Katie ended after Season 4, while Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is set to end after Part 4 later in 2020.
These cancellations have been blamed on what has been called the "Netflix curse," in which almost no shows on the streaming service are able to make it past Season 3 or 4.
This is reportedly because shows get much more expensive to make after those seasons due to some of the conditions in the contracts Netflix makes with its casts and crews. Like many other Netflix shows that were canceled after Season 3 or 4, Greenhouse Academy is believed to have had a fairly large audience. Per TV Time's Binge Report, the show was the sixth-most binged show on any service when it was released in March 2020. However, the fact that it was behind other teen dramas like Elite, Riverdale, and On My Block on the chart may help explain why the show has ended.
