Can I still use my Nook 1st Edition? ›

Barnes & Noble is upgrading to the newest version of this security measure, TLS 1.2, which is incompatible with the NOOK 1st Edition. To ensure that we can keep your information as secure as possible at all times, we can no longer allow the NOOK 1st Edition to be used for online transactions, such as eBook purchases.

As of September 12, 2022, the existing nookaudiobooks.com website and NOOK Audiobooks app are no longer available or technically supported, so access to any existing content is only possible via the new Barnes & Noble NOOK App and BN.com.

As of April 4, 2022, with the release of NOOK Software Version 6.1, the ability to purchase has been removed from the Barnes & Noble NOOK App for Android and the NOOK HD 10” Designed with Lenovo.

From your computer's web browser navigate to NOOK.com/support. Clicking Software Update on the specific NOOK you wish to update will take you to the update page for your device. Follow the instructions to download the update file. Click Get update Today and select the Click here link to begin your download.

Notice for NOOK Color and NOOK Tablet owners: As of March 15, 2016, Barnes & Noble no longer supporting these older NOOK tablets and the B&N app store was closed. This means NOOK Color and NOOK Tablet owners will no longer be able to download or update the OverDrive or Cloud Library apps.

It effectively shut down its Nook app store in early 2016, and in 2017 announced that it would no longer be making Nook devices itself, but slapping the brand on devices others made for it.

Barnes & Noble is shutting down its Nook app store, the slightly niche portal through which it sold ebooks for its e-reader, the Nook.

On your computer, navigate to Smashwords.com and download the EPUB file of your desired ebook. Connect your NOOK to your computer, where it will appear just like a flash drive would appear. Drag the EPUB file over to the “documents” folder of your NOOK, Disconnect your NOOK and enjoy!

Can you still download on a Nook? ›

When you log in, the Nook app will display all your purchased book. You'll also see that there is a "Download" button at bottom of your book cover. Just tap "Download" button to download Nook books.

Wi-Fi version

Barnes and Noble has announced that they will be disabling in-app purchases within the Nook app for Android on April 2nd, 2022. This means, that users will no longer be able to buy books through the app. Barnes and Noble will release a new version of their app, which will enable Consumption Only mode.

Tap the Settings icon on the Quick Nav bar from the Home screen, page to the second Settings screen, then tap on Software. While connected to Wi-Fi, tap on “Check For System Update”. Your NOOK will check for a new software update and start the download immediately.

To verify you have the latest update, tap the Settings icon in the Status bar at the top of your screen, tap on All Settings, then tap on Device Information, and check to see that your Software version number matches the number at the top of this page.

NOOK devices eligible for trade-in include NOOK 1st Edition®, NOOK Color®, NOOK Tablet®, NOOK Simple Touch®, NOOK Simple Touch® with GlowLight®, NOOK® HD, NOOK® HD+ and NOOK GlowLight®. NOOK devices not eligible for trade-in include NOOK GlowLight Plus™ and any NOOK by Samsung device.
