Can someone tell if you muted their messages? ›

Before we dive in, it's worth mentioning that your contact won't be notified that they've been muted, and you won't get any Message notifications from that person until you unmute them.

However, it's important to remember: Contacts aren't notified that you've muted the chat.

If you mute someone, it just means you don't see or hear notifications when they contact you. Their message will still be delivered as normal and they'll still see 2 ticks (providing your phone is on and connected to the internet) so will have no way of knowing you've muted them.

Check the chat bubble color

If you see a green bubble, that could indicate someone blocked you, especially if your chats with this person used to be blue. This is only true if both of you use iMessage on iPhones. If the other person switched to an Android phone, their bubble may have turned green.

When you mute a text conversation on your iPhone, you won't get any notifications from them until you unmute them again. However, you can still see their texts when you open the app, so you can still choose to read them if you want to.

Volume control: If you are speaking on a phone call and the other person has muted you, you may notice a sudden drop in volume or complete silence from their end.

Although you can't officially leave MMS group chats, you can hide or block the conversation. It's not as good as outright leaving a conversation (other participants will still see you as in it), but you at least have no personal evidence of the conversation continuing.

Muted conversations will not send push notifications, will not appear in home, and will also be visually deprioritized by being moved to the bottom of each conversation section.

Muting a conversation disables notifications.

Deliver Quietly is a setting you can apply to specific iMessage chats or apps so the notifications don't appear on your Lock screen or make noise. It was introduced in iOS 12, so if you have an older version, you cannot use this feature.

Does one tick mean muted? ›

One grey tick means that the message has been successfully sent from your phone, but it hasn't been delivered yet to the other person's phone. You can think of it as being 'in transit'.

When you give an app permission to share your Focus status, others can see that you have notifications silenced, but not the name of the Focus you have turned on.

Even if you would have the notifications ON for this group, you would not receive any notification about being removed from this group. When a member is removed from a group, this group conversation just disappears from their chat list, and no notification is send to this user.
